Efter det gemensamma seminariet i EU-parlamentet häromveckan om Dawit Isaak har frågan lyfts ytterligare en nivå inom EU.
Louis Michel, tidigare utvecklingskommissionär, numera partikollega i EP, är beredd att bege sig till Eritrea för att träffa President Isaias Afewerki med EP:s krav om frisläppande om Isaak och hans politiska medfångar.
Vid seminariet fick vi flera uppslag för att kunna verka till stöd för Dawit. EU kan göra mer, den nya Kommissionen kan agera, i synnerhet Baronessan Ashton i sin nya roll som EU:s "utrikesminister".
Jag har talat med mina kolleger om att ställa frågor om Dawit till Ashton på hennes utfrågning i EP den 11 januari.
Det var en bred uppslutning under seminariet kring strategin att kombinera högljudd diplomati/politiskt arbete med den traditionella tysta diplomatin.
Från oss svenska MEP-ar och Esayas Isaak och Leif Öbrink utgick en appell om att EU skall frysa biståndet till Eritrea.
Vi fick inte stöd från Kommissionens representant, även om attityden var mer förstående denna gång.
Vi fortsätter vår kamp på alla nivåer!
