Vi diskuterade även det internationella rättsystemet och den internationella brottsmålsdomstolen (ICC) i Haag idag i Lomé. Flera afrikanska kolleger är kritiska till ICC som de anser bara dömer förbrytare från utvecklingsländer men aldrig europeiska ledare. Här ett par utdrag ur mitt anförande. "At the core of the system of global justice this system is the International Criminal Court in the Hague.
A system of international justice is a preventive force. If dictators of the world know that justice will catch up with them one day, they may refrain from the worst violence against their people.
And I would like to see an even stronger ICC. One of the most serious crimes of war today is the use of brutal sexual violence against women, destroying not only the lives of these women and girls, but destroying whole communities. Far too few war crime perpetrators guilty of these rape epidemics are brought to court. This is something we should all feel ashamed of.
My vision for the future is therefore that of even deeper international justice cooperation.
There is no alternative worthy of human dignity and the values we all claim to respect."
Kort fråga: varför tas inte sexuellt våld mot män upp? Vad jag hört förekommer även sådant, exempelvis i Kongo. Dock är jag övertygad om det är skillnad i omfattning och i viss mån konsekvenser.
